HCT Podcast Two - Cory Branan: Our Future Houseboy

Posted in cory branan, mucklewain, podcast - August 11th, 2006 at 3:14 pm by Mimi

You know that friend you have who’s always laughing at something inside his head, who goofs on your porcelain hippo collection with more affection than venom, who holds your hair back when you puke but then tells everyone all about it the next day?

His name is Cory Branan, you’ve been waiting your whole life to meet him. He smiles as he sings and turns his face into his shirt when he’s embarrassed by the cheesy-ass lyrics he wrote while drunk.

I’m sort of a loss for describing how charming and intelligent he is for two reasons: one, it sounds like hyperbole because of his transcendent wonderment, and two, I’m scared for his safety if a bunch of wackjobs ganged up on him to haul him off to be their loveslave.

[Once again, it's podcasting time. This time, hanging out in the living room of casa de HCT, with Cory singing, talking and chewing ice (right click and 'save as'). You'll feel like you were right there with us. Sadly we couldn't share the whole recording with you, some things had to be edited out to protect the innocent, and by that we mean maybe our parents shouldn't know some things. Cory's parents too.

It's a lot of BSing, Cory cracking on Ben Nichols and everyone loving on Roy Berry (both of Lucero), talking about future albums, poetry and some fine singing. Tracks include:

Tom Ames' Prayer (Steve Earle cover)
Rosemary Brown
KISS Song
Mimi & Cricket RULE! (It's totally called that. Cory let us name it.)
Creeps Like Me (Lyle Lovett cover)
Attack of the 50ft Hangover
A Bad Man Would Do You Good

And of course, tinkling ice and us laughing ourselves silly. It was good times.—Cricket]

Buy his albums: The Hell You Say and 12 Songs.

Hey Chris, You’re safe for now, but wait ’til we start promoting you, then you’ll have to check all the corners before you start talking.

I think these podcasts are going to be my new best friends on my bus ride to and from work. I can’t think of a better way to wake up/wind down. Mmm, Cory. I’ll see you soon.

I can’t hear it! *shakes tiny powerless fist* I have to turn it up to 100% volume and then it is still barely audible. Am I the only one having this problem?

Man, that shit’s hilarious. I seriously didn’t think I could love him any more than I already did, but there it is.

(And yeah - the sound’s a little low.)

That was great. Made my train ride that much better. Also, ya’ll are not alone. i was pulled over walking home when I lived in San Angelo TX. The officer (after running my id and what not) asked if i had any money on me, as luck would have it I had 15 bucks still in my pocket. He called me a cab. There is a whole lot more to that story, just wanted yall to know I been there too. Keep up the good work.
