It’s the HCT mailbag!

So, a friend of mine in L.A. emailed me about going to see Corb Lund the other night, it went like this:

MIMI OH MY GAWD!

So Corb played Hollywood a few nights ago and there were like, 8 people there. Including me and my mom. Which is just sad. But he killed. And afterwards, my mama was like “What a very charismatic young man.” and I was like “Holy hell, I’d like to get into those big boy pants…”

…Anyway. He sat with us before and after the show and talked shop. He’s got Shooter [Jennings] opening for him in October and he didn’t know what his sound was like. Which seemed really odd to me. So we talked about slut country and shit for a while.

Then he goes “So, how do you even know who we are?” And he’s got this confused, beautifully naive Canadian look on his face. I swear, half of the hot is that he’s Canadian…

…and I was like “We-eelll”, because dude. You totally turned me on to Corb. What was I gonna say? “There’s this crazy chick…she runs the internets. She made us all Corb Lund zombies…”??

No. So I’m like “Uh, there are these girls in Nashville that run the site, uh, Hardcore Troubadours…”

You should have seen his face. He looked like I’d just mentioned Satan/God/the hottest chick he’s ever heard of. His eyes got REALLY WIDE. And he was like “Oh, oh…oh yeah. Those girls, huh?” And I just…well, cracked up. Because DUDE, that’s what I’ve always suspected about you two.

And he’s like “YES! Those girls bought me all kinds of drinks and…” And then he sort of looked off into the distance, worriedly, and his words just drifted into silent introspection.

You are lovely, for whatever you did to Corb Lund.

It was terrible, though. I wonder if everyone falls in love with him. I’ve got our kids’ names picked out and everything. We’ll have to name one Corb the Younger, because I just love the idea of yelling that out across the prairie…

[name redacted to protect the slutty]

So, Corb Lund will be heading your way soon. Buy his record. Go see him. Fall in love with him.

[Man, I can't even read this without choking with laughter. I wonder how many poor musicians out there get the thousand-yard stare when our names come up? And Seattle peeps, you better be at that Tractor show, I want a full report. And if you're up to it say hi to Corb and mention you know us.--Cricket]

I love this story. Not the least b/c we got pretty much the same reaction, and I quote: “Oh, yah, they’re crazy, eh?”

Well done, ladies, and to your nameless friend, too.

Man, I chickened out of talking to him at SF, but he totally kept looking over at me and smiling, and I KNOW we’re going to have cute little Northern babies, and and and….

Yeah. I’ve been pimping him out to my Seattle peeps. Hopefully he’ll get more that 8 people.

Knox, it’s like Fight Club, we can’t talk about it!

Juliana, the venue he’s playing in Seattle is usually packed no matter who is playing, so hopefully he’ll get some new fans tonight.

Sarita, you know what we’re like. Surely Corb wishes all his fans were like us.

Ugh. I am so depressed that I can’t go see him tonight! I, too, have been talking him up to my Seattle peeps, but they are all lame.

Damn him for not coming to me!!

Note to advertisers: I bought 4 CDs I would have missed but for the recommendations on this blog. Alas, I had to give my new Evangelicals CD to your sister, because it left me feeling too happy all the time.

That is the funniest damn story I’ve ever heard. And amusingly, it sounds kind of like what he looked like when I mentioned ya’ll down in Chattanooga.

Here’s hoping he comes to Europe! *crosses fingers*
