It’s podcasting time, people! Let me tell you, this one was a major hassle to edit. Our interviewee was so great that I was half tempted to give you the full 3.5 hours we recorded. But some things shouldn’t be made public, so I’ve edited it down for your listening pleasure and to protect the innocent. [Uh, you do realize the implication here isn't G-rated?--Mimi]
Last week we headed out to see Stephen Simmons play at the Basement here in Nashville. It was great night despite the freezing cold and driving rain. [We live in Nashville, it was chilly and the rain was hard, but hardly driving. It wasn't a No'easter.--Mimi] He played an excellent set backed up by a bunch of amazing Nashville musicians (Eric Fritsch on keys/guitar, Dave Coleman on guitar, Duane “Chop” Blevins on bass, Tim Blankenship on drums, and Jodi Haynes on background vocals). Stephen’s stage presence was unbelievable and not just because we were wooed by his little sardonic smile (the last line in my show notes is “his smile is criminal” and, kids, I hadn’t even had that much to drink). The band members were each individually excellent and taken all together it was a hell of a good time to watch them all play. If you get a chance, if he’s ever anywhere near you, head out and see that show, my friend, you won’t be disappointed.

Jeffrey Foucault–Ghost Repeater
Hi. Yeah, I’ve been absent, but I was sick for, um, a month? Also, I have a lot of comic books to read and people to verbally abuse. [What? Keep up appearances, girl. We've been secretly on tour with a band all over Texas.--Cricket]
*sigh*
This album is good. You’ve been waiting to meet Jeffrey. Not just because his last name is fucking awesome, but also because he’s a solid musician with a clear, vibrant, expressive voice and he writes some poetic, cut-to-the-bone lyrics. [Just so you know, it's impossible to textually render how good this album is, so bear with us, read our paltry words, and then just go get the album, okay?--Cricket]

It’s raining in Tennessee. [That's news. --Mimi] I’m sure this comes as a surprise to no one who lives here or has visited here. The rain makes it hard for me to take the long walk to the mailbox, also I think the umbrella is in the car. When did I become such a wimp? Back out West this weather never would have slowed me down. Maybe all the Tennessee whiskey has thinned my blood. Or the delicious, sticky-hot summer has ruined me for more normal weather. [Whiskey. --Mimi]
We’ve recently been lazing around watching CMT and GAC as punishment, I guess, though I’m not sure for what. [How about our entire lifestyle? --Mimi] We really should just put the recorder on when we do this, as transcribing the conversations just doesn’t do us justice, but I’ll transcribe anyway:

A while back I got an advance copy of the new Bobby Bare, Jr., album. I was excited like a kid on Christmas. Sadly I was like a kid on Christmas who wants a Barbie Doll and gets an electric mixer instead. [You are letting down Team Feminism with both of these examples, loser.--Mimi] I love all BBjr’s previous efforts but I haven’t been able to get behind this one yet. Who knows maybe I’ll pull it out again in a few months and after a couple listens I’ll wonder why I wasn’t lovin’ on it all along.
Today while scrolling through the old iPod to give BBjr one last try I realized I’d loaded but never listened to Bobby Bare, Sr.’s latest release, The Moon Was Blue.

So after a long hiatus filled with house guests, insanity and tequila, I sat down to review the albums that seems to building up from inattention here at HCT HQ. [I am taking time off from the same, PLUS there's my busy scifi-viewing schedule which is too copious for me to insert mean remarks here.—Mimi]
At the top of my stack is Chris Milam’s Leaving Tennessee which I’ve been meaning to review since he came and did a podcast with us a while back.
I find myself in hard position writing this review. See, being in Nashville means I get to hear a lot more from musicians than just what they have released. Chris is one of those musicians that’s close enough for me to stalk and follow closely live and as a person. Chris is good enough that I do exactly that.

Yes, the HCT girls have been absent for a while. I’d like to say it was something cool like we got on the bus with some band after a show and woke up stranded in East Texas, or perhaps we’ve been vacationing at Dolly Parton’s house. No, just the plague bringing us down. You can’t record a podcast or even type very well when you’re coughing all the time. Fortunately we’re both on the mend and ready to bring you a ton of awesome stuff, starting with podcast number five.
I know every time we do one of these I say hanging out with whomever we’re recording is the best time you can have and I mean it but this time I REALLY mean it. This time was more like going to a party than recording a show. So The ACs came over to record with us (are they called that because they’re so damn cool? I forgot to ask). The ACs are Beau Stapleton on guitar, tenor guitar and mandola, David Long on mandolin and mandola and Matt Combs on fiddle, banjo and guitar.
